“Our Shape in the Negative” OUT EVERYWHERE NOW.

A few years worth of reflection, breakdowns and reconstruction have built this album and the face that is presenting it to you. One rendition of this project was less than a week away from coming out a little over 2 years prior, but was scratched at the last minute. An identity crisis, you could say. But now, I feel this chapter of my life has been filled and a new one is beginning. This is the music to soundtrack the former’s close.

This project details my struggle for an identity outside of one adopted and shaped solely based on the whispers of every(thing, one) around me. A hunt for an identity more influenced by what aligns within my body, my heart, and my soul. An identity I haven’t entirely found just yet. This album, however, includes the moments where I start to figure it out. I hope that my struggle to find myself and the intricacies of it that I bear to (the listeners) ears can provide (the listener) some challenge, or at the very least, some new perspective to the lens you use to view yourself and the world around you.

May this album find you well and leave you better than it came. Thank you for helping fulfill my craft. This would not be fulfilled without you, the (viewer, listener, observer, thinker, questioner, Other).

From Kay, with love.

“Pay it no mind.” – Marsha P. Johnson
